Arable Drainage
Last week I was involved with solving drainage issues on some arable land. The ditch levels were higher than the drainage outlets , this was stopping the water draining away causing the fields to sit wet. RAC Contractors Ltd put a 5 year plan together using their expertise and knowledge in soil management to give this block of land a new lease of life , planting cover crops to get root structure, control weeds using less chemical , encourage wildlife , insects and butterflies also return vital nutrients into the ground. My part was to clear the ditches, this involved removing some self set blackthorn, dead trees and hedge. Then clear the ditch, spread the top soil leaving a level area for planting a new hedge and trees. With only 300mm of fall over 195m it needed to be precise, having the rite equipment for the job always helps so a massive thank you to Oliver Newton Priority Plant for the fantastic service as usual, also thank you to the team from @RAC Contractors Ltd for their support .
